No 4 – The Truth ARC 4×20

Bow Hunting Range Finder - Bushnell 202442 The Truth ARC 4x20mm
Check Out Todays Price

Is this the best bowhunting rangefinder? This new “Truth Clear Shot” rangefinder from Bushnell has an extended range up to 850 yards. Like the older model, the effective range for deer spotting is 200 yards. While the sighting out to the maximum range will depend as usual on the size and reflectivity of the target.

Compensated Range

The “Truth clear shot” version extends the original versions angle corrected reading from 99 out to 199 yards. Over this range, the Truth is only capable of line of sight reading.

Why only 4x Magnification

The Truth has a 4x magnification which is lower magnification than most archery style rangefinder currently available. Higher magnification gives more precision at longer ranges. But at closer ranges, lower magnifications give more field of view. This benefits the archer to quickly acquire targets at ranges of 50 yards or less. So, in this case, the 4x is suited to the rangefinders intended purpose as a bow hunting range finder.

Our Verdict

For a budget bow hunting range finder, the Truth Clear Shot does pack a punch with its low magnification, angle compensation and clear shot features. Its lack of a target priority function and screen clutter could put some people off. But considering this is one of  Amazon’s top ten selling rangefinders it appears people love this bow hunting range finder. Because of these features, the Truth Clear Shot rangefinder ideally suited to the bow hunter.

Cheap Hunting Rangefinder - Lions w600 Review
Check Out Todays Price

Is this the best cheap hunting rangefinder? We’ve been looking at inexpensive rangefinders that could be used for mid-range shooting and also for archery. The Lions W600 has had many favourable reviews and features in Amazons top 10 best sellers. It’s no surprise it is selling so well with a budget price around $90.

The easy to read LCD display acquires a measurement quickly and clearly. It’s also a compact design and is small enough to fit in a cargo pocket and the magnetic pouch offers great protection. It has 2 buttons and 2 modes of operation. The modes are distance and speed. In the speed mode, the rangefinder can also track the speed of a moving object. In the other mode, it measures range. Furthermore, using one of the buttons it’s easy to switch between units of meters and yards. The LCD readout is very simple. It just shows the distance in meters or yards. The battery is aCR2 3 volt which is not so common but should be easy enough to find at Walmart or  Amazon.

Best Cheap Rangefinder LIONS W600?

The Lions W600 has a rugged plastic body which is IPX5 waterproof. And this means it will be protected from water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against the enclosure and also from any direction with no harmful effects. It offers good basic functionality but also does exactly what it says on the tin. There are also many positive end-user reviews. And the fact this device is in the top ten Amazon best-selling rangefinders we are inclined to agree that for a cheap rangefinder the Lions w600 is certainly among best rangefinders for the price.

No 6 – The Nikon 16224 bow rangefinder

Check Out Todays Price

The Nikon 16224 bow rangefinder is designed with the bow hunter in mind. It builds on the reputation and features of past Nikon models. It’s also similar In size and appearance to the popular Nikon Aculon budget rangefinder. But it includes some more advanced features similar to those found in the Nikon Prostaff and Riflehunter models. So in this review, we explore these features and ask if they combine to make a winning archery rangefinder?

The Nikon Arrow ID 3000 rangefinder also has a dark green compact body like the Aculon model.  On the top of the device are two buttons for controlling its operation. The power-range button is nearest the eyepiece, while the mode control button is nearer the objective lens.  An adjustable eyepiece to focus the rangefinder is located at the rear of the unit. Below that is the battery compartment.

Nikon’s ID Technology For True Horizontal Range

The Arrow ID 3000 incorporates Nikon’s ID (incline/decline) angle compensation technology. Thi gives the user a true horizontal range to the target. This feature is most useful when the angle of the shots are large. Bowhunters often encounter these severe angle shots when hunting from a treestand for example. For the archer small differences in line-of-sight and true horizontal ranges can make a big difference to the success of a shot. This feature is what makes this Nikon an ideal cheap rangefinder for bow hunting.

Our Verdict

The Nikon Arrow ID 3000 packs in all the features including the famous Nikon optics technology that a good bow hunting rangefinder needs. Also, for steep angle shots, the angle compensation is ideal.  Target priority modes for ranging through cover combined with the 4x magnification offering a wider field of view.  This helps to locate large targets quickly at close ranges. Furthermore, the combination of all these features with a great price point at around  $190 is all you could ask for in a cheap rangefinder for the archer

Archery Range finder Bow Hunting - Simmons 801600 Volt 600 Laser Rangefinder, Black
Check Out Todays Price

Need an archery range finder for bow hunting? Simmons is known for producing value and budget priced sporting optics. Many hunters and shooters choose the Simmons brand because of the price versus value balance or simply because they don’t need to pay for higher priced models with a lot of high-end features they don’t need.

The Simmons Volt 600 rangefinders are basic no frills and low-cost rangefinders meeting the needs of this market sector.

The Volt 600 is very accurate. An in-view LCD display provides the exact distance to your target from 10 to 600 yards with the tap of a single button. It has bright, clear optics and 4x magnification.

OUR VERDICT

The Simmons Volt 600 model offers a basic cheap rangefinder at a lower price than most of their competitors. So basically you pay for what you get. However,  a relatively short ranging ability is a reflection of this compromise. But as an archery rangefinder, this limitation should not be a concern. The device has many good reviews on Amazon and is a best seller.

The Simmons Volt 600 Tilt version also offers an angle compensation feature not normally seen in a budget archery rangefinder. Furthermore, for the bow hunter, its lower magnification gives a greater field of view which is important at closer ranges.  The horizontal distance feature and its low cost make this range finder a good cheap rangefinder for bow hunting.
