Laser Rangefinder Reviews – Bushnell Scout DX 1000 ARC Deadly Effective

Our Laser Rangefinder Reviews now include the Bushnell Scout DX 1000 ARC 6 x 21mm. Its predecessor the Scout 1000 ARC was a popular contender as a top dual purpose rangefinder. The new Bushnell Scout DX 1000 has many new features borrowed from Bushnell’s premier G-Force 1300 rangefinder line.

What’s new in the Scout DX 1000

The Scout DX 1000 has the same housing style as the G-Force 1300 series. Although the Scout housing has the same external dimensions as the Force 1300 its body is made from plastic instead of the Force 1300 metal housing. Like that rangefinder, it has rubber armouring for better grip in wet conditions.

Laser Rangefinder Reviews – Bushnell Scout DX 1000 New ARC Functions

The Scout DX 1000 has both the “Bow” and “Rifle” modes and has Bushnell’s ARC (Angle Range Compensation) technology like its predecessor. It now incorporates more G-Force 1300 features such as the VSI (variable sight in) option that lets the shooter choose from one of four different sight-in distances. Also, the Rifle mode now includes holdover information in units of MIL, and MOA besides inches and centimetres.

More Magnification and Greater Field Of View

The new DX Scout 1000 also has 6x magnification and the 21mm aim lens similar to the G-Force models. The previous Scout 1000 had 5x magnification and a 24mm objective lens. The original model had a field of view of 376 feet at 1000 yards while the new model has a field of view quoted as 393ft at 1000 yards. So the new model has more magnification but still manages a greater field of view than the old model.

New DX Scout With ESP

Bushnell’s DX Scout 1000 gets a processor facelift by received the ESP (Extreme Speed and Precision) technology found on the G-Force 1300 models. The ESP processor can read faster and with greater accuracy than the original model. The new models have half yard accuracy up to 125 yards. It displays the distance in tenth-yard increments out to that range. At ranges beyond 125 yards, the accuracy is plus or minus 1 yard like the original model.

DX Scout 1000 Keeps Original Black LCD

The DX Scout 1000 features a black LCD display like to the original version. In contrast to other features inherited from the G-Force 1300, which has the new red LCD Bushnell they call Vivid Display Technology.

Target Priority

Like its predecessor, the new DX Scout, comes with both first and last target priority modes known as Bullseye and Brush modes. In Bullseye mode the unit displays the distance of the nearest object when the rangefinder receives a split reading. The Brush mode is just the opposite and reports the farthest object when two objects are detected on a single reading. The DX scout allows the user to set either mode of operation.

No Change In Ranging Target Distances of  The DX Scout 1000

In contrast to other improvements, the new Scout model does not improve maximum range on its predecessor

  • Range: 5-1000 yards
  • Tree Ranging Performance: 650 yards
  • Deer Ranging Performance: 325 yards

However, the main takeaway is that the overall expected distances in each category are no different on the new version than on the old version. However, remember the increased speed and accuracy up to 125 yards brought by the ESP.

Laser Rangefinder Reviews – Bushnell Scout DX 1000 ARC Pros & Cons

New Features Same Price

Bushnell having upgraded the new housing design, ESP technology, and also a fully featured ARC mode have not changed the price for the new DX Scout 1000 from the original model. The DX Scout 1000 black model is around $250 and the camo version going for about $50 more. So despite the updates, Bushnell improved the product at no extra cost.

No Improvement in Ranging Performance

The new DX Scout is rated for 650 on trees and 325 yards on deer, which is a little underwhelming for a 1000 yard rangefinder. We see deer range at 500 – 600 yards for rangefinders with a maximum of 1000 yards. In other words, we expect deer range at roughly half the maximum range although this is not a hard and fast rule.

No Angle Compensated Rifle Range

In our laser rangefinder reviews, Bushnell rangefinders, give actual horizontal angle compensated distance in “Bow” mode only. But in the Bushnell Scout DX 1000 ARC case, it displays the compensated range out to a maximum range of 99 yards. When in rifle mode, it only provides the angle compensated holdover information in inches, cm, Mils, or MOA. If the Bushnell Scout DX also provided an angle compensate range in rifle mode that would suit many shooters and hunters who just want to use this information.

Laser Rangefinder Reviews Verdict

The new Bushnell Scout DX 1000 is a solid mix of the newer G-Force 1300 model and the original Scout 1000 ARC model. The original Scout 1000 proved popular and this new model is a welcome upgrade. Also, in our laser rangefinder reviews, we have recommended the Bushnell Scout 1000 as a good dual purpose rangefinder. If you can live without angle compensated range readings in rifle mode, the new improved Bushnell Scout DX model would serve your needs.
